Do we allow AI generated music?
Yes — Tunearo currently accepts releases that contain AI generated elements, including AI generated instrumentals, beats, and compositions, provided they meet the requirements below.
What we require:
• You must declare any AI generated elements in your release submission
• AI tools used must be fully licensed for commercial use (e.g. Suno commercial plan)
• You must own or hold the rights to the final recording
• No cloned or replicated artist voices or likenesses without explicit written permission from that artist
• Content must not be designed to mislead listeners or manipulate streaming activity
• Human written lyrics must be declared as such
What we don’t allow:
• AI generated content submitted as fully human created original work without declaration
• Cloning of real artist voices or likenesses without permission
• AI generated content designed to impersonate existing artists
• Use of unlicensed AI generation tools for commercial releases
The changing landscape
The rules around AI generated music are evolving rapidly. Here’s what’s currently happening:
DDEX — the international body that sets music metadata standards — is actively developing new AI declaration standards. Once finalised, we will be required to include AI declaration fields in all metadata submissions to streaming platforms.
Streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and others are actively reviewing their content policies around AI generated music. It is highly likely that specific rules and requirements will be introduced in the near future.
Our position is simple: we will follow the rules set by DSPs and upstream distribution partners as they evolve. If a streaming platform introduces a specific policy around AI content — whether that’s mandatory declaration, restrictions on certain types of AI music, or anything else — we will apply those rules to all relevant releases on our platform.
What this means for you
If you are distributing AI generated music through Tunearo:
• Your release is accepted under our current policy
• Future DSP policy changes may affect your release’s availability on specific platforms
• We will notify you if any policy change affects your live releases
• We recommend declaring AI involvement clearly and keeping records of the tools used
